Who feels happy about herself.

Who would like to see lots of snow to plow.

It is winter.
It is winter.
Ice and snow.
Ice and snow.
Not in Pasadena.
Not in Pasadena.
It's just cold.
Wet and cold.
We read Snowballs by Lois Elhert. We liked the things she
used to make the snowmen. We all got to make our own snowmen using the drawing tools on
the computer. We don't have snow in Pasadena, Texas. It's just wet and sort of cold, but
not cold like we can imagine! We re-wrote the words to our calendar song to fit our
winter.

Senses Poem ~
Snow Day!
I see . . .
white sparkling snow,
a snow igloo,
snow-covered trees,
icicles hanging from my roof,
people shoveling.
I hear . . .
snow falling from branches,
icicles breaking,
birds calling,
feet crunching in the snow,
wind blowing.
I feel . . .
freezing,
shivery cold,
wet snowflakes on my face,
falling snow on my hands.
I smell . . .
pine trees.
I taste . . .
snowflakes on my tongue.
Snow day!

Book: Snowflake Bentley
by Jacqueline Briggs Martin |
~
Acrostic Poem ~
Saw a lot of snow where he lived.
No one like the snowflakes like he did.
On snowy days he would watch the snow.
When he died a monument was built in
his town.
Found different kinds of snowflakes.
Liked to take pictures of snowflakes.
Asked his mom and dad for a camera.
Known as the "Snowflake Man".
Every winter he took pictures of snowflakes
Bentley got sick and died after he went through a blizzard.
Every day he studied crystals.
Nobody cared about his pictures.
The one thing he liked most is snow.
Lots of snowflakes melted before he could draw them.
Expected to find a flake that was the same but he didn't.
Yet he would never stop making pictures.

Poem ~
Winter Is
Winter is a jacket and scarf.
Winter is mittens.
But winter inside
is cuddling with my kittens.
Winter is the frost.
Winter is my frozen nose.
But winter inside
is warming my toes.
Winter is icey.
Winter is my hands in my pocket.
But winter inside
is a cup of hot chocolate.
Winter is my boots.
Winter is sliding on the ice.
But winter inside
is sitting by the fire all warm and nice.

Book: Stranger In The Woods
by Carl Sams II and Jean Stoick |
~
Free Verse Poem ~
Who Is the Stranger in the Woods?
The animals are worrying
About the stranger in the woods
And they are wondering,
"Is he bad or is he good?"
The animals are arguing
About who should go first.
The buck and cardinal argues.
We thought that they would burst!
All the animals walked over
And found food, to their surprise,
In and around the snowman
But they didn't find French fries!
A boy and girl watched quietly
From behind an evergreen.
They decided to feed the animals
All winter, without being seen.
