About Read A Book - Write A Poem

An Internet Project for First Graders
Winter 2002
**************************************************

Classes will read or listen to the reading of a winter book. As a response to the reading, students will write a class poem about the book's theme or about a character in the book. Any poetry form may be used.

This is a good "first" Internet project to participate in.  There is no expense involved. Poetry resource links and a book list are available.

* To register for project, send first grade teacher's name, school name, town, state/province, country to Marci McGowan.

One poem from each registered first grade class will be submitted by
February 1, 2002 via email to be posted on the project page.

Send class poem to Marci McGowan

Extension: Additional individual student poems and illustrations can be created.  If desired, a link will be made to class web pages showing additional student poems and illustrations.

The project page of class poems will be available for student reading and for teachers to use as enrichment or supplemental guided reading material.

Start: January 2, 2002
