Micklefield is
an independent, girls' primary school, situated in Rondebosch, a suburb of Cape
Town. There is a spectacular view of Table Mountain, Cape Town's main attraction.
Last year our Grade 2 girls began looking at the book called The Important Book,
as recommended by the project website. We all loved the layout and simplicity of the
poems. We had to take a break over our long summer holidays, but as soon as we came back,
we brainstormed places in our town.
These lessons were all done during computer time, which was
1/2 hour a week (not very long indeed!) The girls worked with the librarian to discuss in
detail what they would like to write about. They then split into pairs, each group taking
a different topic that they liked. It took 3 weeks to write as they also had to type them
out themselves!
