Our class has been working on different forms of poetry all year. We have also been learning about our community. This on-line project allowed us to put the two together and write a poem about our community. After reading Margaret Wise Brown's The Important Book, we wrote the following class poem about St. Louis using the book's format. You can see more student poems at our class website.

The Important thing about St. Louis is that it is the
Gateway to the West.

The St. Louis Arch stands 630 feet over the Mississippi River and welcomes visitors to our town.

The St. Louis Arch is a National Monument.

We host Fair St. Louis, a huge event every summer on the Arch Grounds to celebrate the Fourth of July.

We have the Science Center, History Museum, Art Museum, Jewel Box, Muny Theater, St. Louis Zoo, and more, all in Forest Park.

Forest Park was where the 1904 World’s Fair was held.

We have big sports teams like the St. Louis Rams, St. Louis Cardinals, and St. Louis Blues.

Living in St. Louis is a lot of fun!

The Important thing about St. Louis, Missouri is that it is the Gateway to the West.
