Entering Daingerfield

In addition to The Important Book, we read As the Crow Flies by Gail Hartman and made maps to show what we see from our house to the school.

Daingerfield

The important thing about Daingerfield is
playing in the swings at the State Park.

I swim in the lake.
I go to Brookshire's to buy food.
School is fun.
I eat at McDonald's.
Daingerfield is fun.

But the important thing about Daingerfield is
playing in the swings at the State Park.

We also displayed the poems in a store window during our town's fall festival that honors the namesake of our town, Captain Daingerfield Day.

Very cool children's introduction to maps.
Good reading for 3-8 yrs. It serves as a good tool for demonstrating how places relate to each other and exposes them to the concept of maps. They are very basic maps--landmarks only--combined with good illustrations, that make it so easy for children to comprehend.
