Buffalo Grove, IL is Important: Mrs. Singsank's 2nd Grade

Our class read THE IMPORTANT BOOK by Margaret Wise Brown. We decided to follow the pattern and write about the area in which we live. Buffalo Grove is the suburb our school is located in, but not all our classmates live there. Nine out of our eighteen students live in Buffalo Grove, three live in Arlington Heights, two live in Long Grove, two live in Hawthorn Woods, and one lives in Vernon Hills. That's why we decided that the most important thing about Buffalo Grove must be that our school is there.

We brainstormed about places in Buffalo Grove, places near our home, and about the many exciting places we like to visit in Chicago. Everyone followed the pattern and wrote their own poems in their journals. We then put our thoughts together and composed our class poem.

This year we are trying to learn about our own community and about the state of Illinois. We are also interested in learning about the United States. Besides this fun project, we are taking part in Pam Elliott's Flat Gingerbread Project and in a postcard exchange. We are having SUCH FUN LEARNING!!!

Buffalo Grove, Illinois

The important thing about Buffalo Grove, Illinois is that it is the home of our church and school, St. Mary.

St. Mary is a place where kids can learn and pray. Kids can learn new things and make friends.

1_242signjpeg.jpg (9743 bytes) Buffalo Grove is a town that has places to go and things to do. It has an entertainment center called EsKape, a skateboarding park, Score, soccer and baseball fields, and restaurants.

In Buffalo Grove, you can ride your bike on all the paths, play with your friends, and go out for food.

The people here are friendly and kind.

We are close to Great America where you can go on really cool rides likerollercoasters. You can play games and win prizes. There's lots to eat.

It's a great place to go to have fun!

We go to the city to enjoy Lake Michigan, to visit Navy Pier, to go to the United Center, to visit Nike Town and the American Girl store, to watch the Cubs play at Wrigley Field, to visit China Town and the Shedd Aquarium, to see the dinosaurs at the Field Museum, to shop at Marshall Fields, and to see tall buildings like the Sears Tower!

In Chicago, you can have fun spending time with your family!

But the MOST IMPORTANT THING about Buffalo Grove, Illinois is that it is the home of our church and school, St. Mary!
