Class Website

This project was done in conjuction with our social studies curriculum – communities and local history. We used The Important Book by Margaret Wise Brown as a springboard. We used our individual schema to create individual poems and then a class poem. Illustrations and dimentional pieces were created to go along with the poems. Since we have a new mayor, we made him a large poster of our poems and we hope to have him visit our class soon.  Visit our class webpage to see all of our project work.

Wethersfield, Connecticut

The population of Wethersfield, Connecticut is approximately 26,271.

We are the first town south of Connecticut’s capital, Hartford. We are a suburb located in Hartford County.

Our size of our town is 13 square miles.

Wethersfield was the first town settled in Connecticut in 1634.

We have an ancient burial ground with a stone dating back to 1648.

OUR TOWN IS IMPORTANT

The important thing about WETHERSFIELD, CONNECTICUT is that it is where we live!

It is true that Wethersfield has a lot of history,

And the Wongunk Indians lived here a long time ago,

And it is the oldest town in Connecticut,

And that Wethersfield is represented on the
Connecticut flag,

And it is famous for red onions (our town symbol),

And George Washington planned a battle here,

And we enjoy the Wethersfield Cove that is just off the Connecticut River,

And we have awesome schools,

And that the library and restaurants are great,

And Wethersfield has fun parks where we swim and play,

And that we have town traditions of scarecrows, parades, and a corn festival,

And it’s true our great community has caring people
who work together.

But the most important thing about WETHERSFIELD, CONNECTICUT is that it is where we live!

This is a poster we made for our new mayor.

He was so amazed to see such great work and "so thoughtful about our town."
