~ My Town Is Important 2003-2004 ~ Mrs. Brines Third Grade Class |
| This project was
done as an extension to a unit on Famous Missourians, which is part of our Social Studies
curriculum. We began by discussing famous people from Missouri and Sedalia. This led into
a discussion of the importance of Sedalia. We used Margaret Wise Browns book, The Important Book, to help us create a format for a poem. The students wrote paragraphs about what is important about Sedalia, they took pictures of what they felt was important, and inserted the pictures into their writings to display at our school. This led to the creation of an individual web page for each student to post his or her work on our class site. We then e-mailed businesses and government officials inviting them to visit our site and the project so they can see how proud we are of Sedalia.
