Our Part of Pittsburgh


Claire

West Allegheny is the largest district, geographically, of the 42 school systems in Allegheny County.  We have a population of approximately 19,000 residents in our 58 square miles.  We have grown a lot lately. In 1993-1994 we had 2576 students in the district.  In 2004-2005 we had over 3275 students.  We are located six miles from the Pittsburgh International Airport and 15 miles west of the heart of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

After reading The Important Book by Margaret Wise Brown our class discussed our neighborhoods. We come from many different suburban neighborhoods. Since none can actually be called a town, we decided to write about why our part of Pittsburgh is important to us.

The important thing about our part of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is that we live here! 

We are the home of the Super Bowl Champion Steelers!
The city is close by.
Pittsburgh is a nice place.
We have roads.
We have fun.
We have cars.
It’s cool.
We have electricity.
Bruster’s is close by.
The Robinson Mall is close to us.
We are close to the airport.
It is a free country.
We have a nice community.
My house is nice.
My country is special.
My friends live here.
I have a special cat.
My home is special.
My family is special.
We can see our family.
Our Moms and Dads are here.
We have grandmas and grandpas.
My brother Sergei and Snickers the Dog live here.
My friends are special.
We can see our friends.
We can walk to our friends’ houses.
We are good friends.
We are making good, new friends.
We are nice to our friends.
We are playing with our friends.
You can see your friends anytime.
We live in nice houses.
We are meeting new neighbors.
My next door neighbors are nice.
Donaldson is a good school.
We can go swimming anytime we want.
We live close to our school. 

But the most important thing about our part of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is that we live here!
