We read the book Spring's Sprung by Lynn Plourde (a Maine
author). Our class brainstormed signs of spring in Maine and worked in cooperative groups
writing stanzas for our class poem. The illustrations were made in Hyperstudio.

Here are three stanzas of the poem.
Spring in Maine
Warm, sunny days with not even one cloud in the sky
makes the white fluffy snow go bye-bye!
Thats what happens when its spring.
When the big gray clouds come our way
it rains hard and it rains lightly,
The mud starts to get thick and brown.
Thats what happens when its spring!

Spring is a time to go to the canoe races.
We hear cold, wet people yelling, water rushing,
boats scraping on rocks, water splashing.
We see red, yellow, green and blue canoes and kayaks being paddled in water.
We smell the water and the damp soil,
We feel excited and sorry for the cold, wet people.
It doesnt matter if you lose,
Youre lucky to just finish!
Thats what happens when its spring.

Little purple crocuses,
soft pussy willows,
tulips blooming,
Thats what happens when its spring.
Grass getting patches of green,
Trees building fat little buds,
Thats what happens when its spring!
