September Word Wall

  • Our Word Wall Words are high-frequency/sight words.  Although it's possible to "sound out" some of them, I recommend learning to recognize the whole word.

  • In the classroom, about 5 words are added to the word wall each week.  We use the words in several activities and all the "sight words" for the year are posted by October to help students who want to use them in their writing.

  • Each day, practice 4 - 5 words. Use 3 that are known fairly well and 2 others. Make a duplicate set of cards (same word on 2 cards) and play a Concentration type game. Your child has to read the words to keep a matched pair and he can keep your matched pair by reading those words!

  • Keep a set of word cards in the car for a back-seat game. If your child doesn't recognize a word, give hints by using the word in a sentence.

  • Look for the words in stories you are reading to your child. (You are doing that every day, right?)

  • Let me know if you find other games to play that help learn the words by sight!

  • Take a look at our webpages for ways to help your child with reading.

  • Visit our webpages that have all the words on
