The project was a wonderful way to form an interdisciplinary unit of study revolving around reading/writing/mathematics and social studies. Everything just seemed to work together, and my students not only learned a great deal but weren't bored. Our quilt is hanging in a local bank, and the president of the bank said that lots of the people stopping at the bank spend time reading our Murphysboro quilt. Throughout the project my students gained information about our community and pride in their project. Viewing the other quilts on the webpage has also led to even more learning and sharing.

The hardest part of the project was getting the technology to work. I ran into several problems that I had not anticipated. Since this was my first project of this kind, I will have the experience to trouble-shoot some of the delays next year. It was definitely worthwhile, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this wonderful activity. It tied in so many areas of our curriculum, and gave our class an excellent opportunity to develop many skills. As we learned about our community we were able to appreciate the many fine things that we have here, and our Art teacher helped us make our quilt squares. We were also able to share our project with our PTO so that they could see the wonderful things we are learning in our school.

I am so happy to have been a part of this project. My students enjoyed it very much. We certainly took it to a level I didn't expect when we first started, but we are all thrilled. It is a very appropriate project, and motivating for the students. It fit in with our units of study, and our finished quilt willl hang in the public library to remind us for a long time of the wonderful experience we had learning about our hometown-Gladstone!

The children in Ponton’s Pond really enjoyed working on our quilt project. Our favorite part was seeing it, along side many other wonderful entries, on the project page. We were able to put into practice many math, writing and social studies skills. It integrated fantastically with the curriculum in an enjoyable way! Thanks for including us Mrs. McGowan!

My class and I feel very fortunate to have been a part of Mrs. McGowan's project. The third in her first trilogy of "Places" projects, A Patchwork of Places and Poetry is a real treasure. Marci's projects always inspire me, and challenge me to think about addressing our state's standards in new and creative ways. My children absolutely loved our online quilt and felt extremely proud of their work. We learn so much, as well, from other classes, and marvel at the wealth of ideas and innovation that abound in the classrooms of our country and world. Mrs. McGowan also provided an amazing array of resources and examples to support participants throughout the project. Thank you, Mrs. McGowan! We look forward to your next project!

We enjoyed the project very much! It fit in so well with our Community unit and integrated well across the curriculum~! I was glad I found it during the summer so I had plenty of time to incorporate the quilt activities into my community unit! As always your projects are wonderful! What is your next project???? We can't wait!

This project was very beneficial for a number of reasons. 1) It allowed my class to truly look at the world around them that they see daily and appreciate it. 2) The project opened the world outside of Hawaii to them through quilts and poetry. 3) The children gained a sense of history and a meaning of quilts through reading.
I would be more than willing to participate in this type of project again.
