Our Class

The important thing about the students in our class is that they are readers and writers and love to share their work!

They worked hard, checked for correct spelling, and read their Important Poems to each other.

They'll read the poems to parents and show their illustrations as PowerPoint slides at the 100th day of school celebration.

But the most important thing about the students in our class is that they are readers and writers and love to share their work!

This is an example of an Important Poem - written by Mrs. M.

In the fall, our class wrote an Important Poem About the Ocean. This group effort introduced the students to poetry writing and was part of an online project we were hosting. Since then, we have written poems in other formats and continue to read poetry every week.

In January, we revisited Margaret Wise Brown's classic, The Important Book. Now our firstgraders are ready to share their own individual Important Poems. Each poem is written using Brown's pattern:

Beginning: The important thing about .... is ....
Middle: It ... (write more about the topic)
End: Repeat the first sentence

1	Steven's Dad The important thing about my dad is that he likes red. He likes red shirts and he has a red tie. My dad helps do my homework and my dad buys me toys. My dad plays with me on the weekend. But the most important thing about thing about my dad is that he likes red.

The important thing about Zack is that he is my cousin.
Zack likes me when I hide and play with him.
Zack plays with me and I play with him.
He likes the Pooh backpack that I gave to him.

3	Justin's Friend The important thing about Nick is that he is my friend. My friend plays baseball with me. Nick plays video games with me too. He's funny when he comes over. But the most important thing about Nick is that he is my friend.

The important thing about Lizzy is that she is my cousin.
She has two older sisters, Maggie and Katie.
She is cute when she smiles.
She lives in Chatham and she is five and a half months old.
