One of the
most interesting "discovery" opportunities we had this
year was to celebrate
the 200th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Expedition with other
classes. Jennifer Wagner
of
TechnoSpud.com , created the
Shoeless and Bark Internet Project. This project helps make Lewis &
Clark's experiences meaningful to children.
Shoeless
(a beanie cat) and Bark (a beanie dog) are on a quest of discovery.
They spent a week in January 2005 finding out about our school, our students,
and our community. They started their
journey in September, visiting classes in New York, Massachusetts,
Maine, Texas, Ohio, Missouri, and Arizona. Now they are off to
new discoveries in other classrooms and schools!

friendly classroom bison.

Here they are
with some of the books we read together. Everyone really
enjoyed learning about Seaman, Captain Meriwether Lewis' dog.
Seaman went on
the journey too and even saved his master from a grizzly bear
attack!

Portage Lewis
had to carry all their equipment around the enormous
