nairn_cactushotel.jpg (6886 bytes)We have been studying the desert and used a wonderful book, The Catus Hotel, by Brenda Z. Guiberson.  I highly recommend it.  Click on the image to read more about this book.

Our class also read The Important Book by Margaret Wise Brown. and we wrote poems about the desert using the framework from this book. The children worked in pairs. Their work was so good, it was hard to pick just one poem. We put them together to create a poem written by the entire class.

It is dry and very hot.
The cactus is pokey and has holes in it.
People live in the desert.
It has red tailed hawks, snakes, and desert
tortoises.
Some animals use plants for shelter.
