Oh, The Places We'll Go! |

| From Ms. Coats: "I read The Important Book,
by Margaret Wise Brown and then the students wrote the important things about their own
city. As a class, they decided that they liked Austin's idea of a peaceful little city as
being the most important thing about Berlin. We chose the other sentences from a list of
ideas that had been brainstormed. Next the students learned how to write acrostic
poetry. They wrote poems about fall first. Then they each wrote an acrostic poem about
Berlin. Students also drew pictures of their city. This project integrated reading,
writing and social studies standards." |

BERLIN, WISCONSINThe most important thing about Berlin is that it is a peaceful little city. It is true that the Fox River runs right through it. There are lots of farms and woods here. People go hunting, fishing, swimming and camping in the summer. Snowmobiling, ice fishing and ice skating are things to do in the winter. Berlin has beautiful parks, great schools and lots of places to shop. But the most important thing about Berlin is that it is a peaceful little city. |
