During the summer 2002, five teachers
from our school spent a week at the Jacques Cousteau Coastal Education Center, receiving
training in the MARE program.
MARE is "an
interdisciplinary, whole school program that engages teachers, students, parents,
administrators, and the community to transform elementary and middle schools into dynamic
laboratories for the study of the ocean."
Planning for the spring
ocean study continued throughout the year. Each grade level focused on a specific
aspect of the ocean during the fourth marking period and showcased culminating activities
during an Ocean Week.
