Ocean Poetry
Our class hosted a collaborative
Internet project, A Patchwork of Places and Poetry (fall 2002).
Students wrote an acrostic class poem together and another, using Margaret Wise Brown's,
The Important Book format. Information about these poetry formats is given on
the project page. Student drawings about the ocean were displayed in a paper quilt
all through the year. The quilt was cut into pieces in June so everyone could take
home the drawing they had done.
Seaside Similes
Spring 2003: Written in the spring as a literature response, our
first grade similes have an ocean theme.
Porthole Reports
Spring 2003: Students wrote descriptions of their porthole
animal. They had to go to several sources to locate readable information.
There is very little available on the first grade level for independent reading.
2nd Grade - The Beach
Fall 2002: Students in Mrs. Hallowell's and Mrs. Brandon's
class participated in A Patchwork of Places and Poetry also. They wrote
about their favorite place, the Spring Lake beach, and displayed their illustrations in a
paper quilt. |
