How We Did Our Project

First, we looked for as many books, articles and pictures that we could find about Brooklyn.  We talked about what it's like living in Brooklyn and then made a web which included all of our ideas.  Mrs. Cuccia  did a modeled writing with the class showing them how to follow the pattern in the book, The Important Book.  Later, each child picked one thing from the web that they wanted to write about.  The children then drew illustrations on the computer for their writings using Apple Works.  A page on our class web site  includes each student's work, some links about Brooklyn and other fun things.

Our Town Is Important

Brooklyn, New York

The important thing about Brooklyn is its people.  Brooklyn was originally the home of the Canarsee Indians.  In 1635, it was settled by Dutch farmers.  Today, Brooklyn is truly multicultural.

You can find people from almost every nation on Earth living side by side in Brooklyn, making it the most populated of the five boroughs of New York City.  Brooklyn has more than 62 neighborhoods, each with its own distinct flavor.  But the important thing about Brooklyn is its people.
