My Town Is Important!
Assessment

Students, Teachers, Parents, Visitors:

Your opinion about this project  is important.  Please send email to
Marci McGowan  to be posted on this page.  Thanks for your help!

5/12: Congratulations!
I am writing to let you know that the members of the
RTEACHER listserv (mailing list) have awarded you "The Miss Rumphius Award."  RTEACHER is a discussion group for literacy and technology run in conjunction with The Reading Teacher, a journal of the International Reading Association.  We present this award for your wonderful curriculum resource located at: http://www.mrsmcgowan.com/mytown.html
Members of the RTEACHER mailing list (listserv) present the MISS RUMPHIUS AWARD to educators who develop and share exceptional Internet resources for literacy and learning.   It honors teachers who make our world a more beautiful  place, like the title character in the book Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney. Because Miss Rumphius scattered lupine seeds wherever she went, we use this flower as the symbol for our award.
If you wish to learn more about this award, the web page is located at: http://www.reading.org/awards/rumphius.html
Best wishes for continued success in the important work you contribute to our instructional worlds!
Don Leu, John and Maria Neag Endowed Chair in Literacy and Technology
The University of Connecticut, Manager of the RTEACHER listserv

5/07: Hi Marci,
Your project is awesome! I can't WAIT to see what you'll be doing next year...
Cheers!          Susan Silverman

5/07: All the other classes' work is so interesting too!  I found a wonderful Almanac Calendar link from Crayola on one participating school web site.  Thank you for a wonderful adventure in reaching across the US to other classrooms to learn about each other.              Joan Stith, Kentucky

5/06:  I did take a look and thought the project was great!  I am going to show
it to my first graders at school.  I have an ez pro so I can project things on the computer screen onto a big screen.  I read the one from N. Syracuse since I only live about an hour from there and then I read the one from Australia.  It must have been a fun project for you to do.          Dianne in upstate NY

5/06:  Marci,  This is wonderful! I wish I had had time to participate!  Nancy

5/05:  What a FANTASTIC site! It looks very nice and is so easy to use.  Hopefully next year we can participate!  Thanks for sharing!          Cindy/OH

5/03:  Thank you for creating our page, we love it and the children are so proud!!  We are going to vote on our favorite town and graph the results.  Loads of great extensions!  Thanks again,  Catherine,  Inzer Captain Isaac Pain School, Foster, RI

5/03:  Marci:  Thanks for including the link to the work my students did on their hometown of Schaumburg.  Your page looks fantastic.  I am very impressed!

My grade three students enjoyed doing this project.  It is a great way to learn about other communities.  The students each received a colour print out of their page.  Great idea!                   Gail Henderson
