A Collaborative Internet Project

Project Description

Students will write a description of significant features about their towns using the unique format from Margaret Wise Brown's, The Important Book. Students will view participating class entries on the project web page.

Extended activities might include:
Illustrating features of the town, interviewing government officials, drawing a town map, writing a song about the town, mapping location of other class towns, writing a response to participating classes about their towns using email, creating a slide show for visitors.

All activities should be aligned with your state/technology standards.

Format
If possible, read and discuss The Important Book.
All students write a description of their town using this format:
Beginning sentence: The important thing about my town is ....
Middle sentence(s): mention a few or several other key features.
Ending sentence: repeat the beginning sentence

Example:

The Sky
by a first grader

The important thing about the sky is that it is blue.
Sometimes it drops rain or gives snow in winter.
It's also black when it's dark out.
Stars live up in the sky.
The sky is pretty.
But the most important thing about the skyis that it's blue.
