Mrs. Urbaniak's Second Grade students were very busy this fall engaged in a variety of seasonal activities.

On the very first day of fall we made a class web of the signs of autumn that would be evident in our town of Palos Hills, Illinois.

On Johnny Appleseed's birthday we read the book Johnny Appleseed by Stephen Kellogg and wrote 5W Apple poems.

Using their 5 senses, the students made fall flip books.

To coincide with our plant unit, we studied trees and leaves, reading the book Why Do Leaves Change Color by Betsy Maestro and Be A Friend to Trees by Patricia Lauber. We collected leaves, graphed leaf colors and estimated and measured our leaves.

In Kid Pix we wrote and illustrated a class book entitled In The Fall about our favorite fall activities.

As Halloween approached we did Pumpkin Math-estimating the circumference, weight and number of seeds in our pumpkins; then measuring and counting to see if our estimations were correct.

We enjoyed reading Fall Is Here!  I Love It! and wrote  our class poem.

Fall Is Here! We Love It!

We go to the apple orchard.
We pick sweet, red apples.
We make apple snacks.
Fall is here! We love it!

We pick a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch.
We carve it to make a scary face.
Fall is here! We love it!

We rake the yellow, green and brown leaves
into a big pile.
It is fun to jump into them.
Fall is here! We love it!

We get ready for Halloween.
We pick out a costume and we try it on.
On Halloween night we trick-or-treat.
Fall is here! We love it!
