We began by sharing many fall stories. We each wrote our own
Leaf Story and painted water colored leaves. We are
designing scarecrows and writing stories about them. We are
creating squirrels with tissue paper tails and crowning them the
king of autumn.

We have written our
Halloween Thoughts and a When is Halloween? poem
in our “Bare” Books. We have copied and illustrated autumn poems in
our Poetry Notebooks.
We have written four journal entries about fall: FALL IS HERE!
WE LOVE IT! acrostic poems, THE BEST THING ABOUT FALL poems, WE
KNOW IT’S FALL Five Senses Poems, and AUTUMN IN ILLINOIS poems.
The best parts of these journals were used to compose our class
poem.
We had fun working on this fall project! We have also enjoyed
going on line and reading the poems
written by other classes across the country.
Our Class Poem
FALL is a beautiful time of year in ILLINOIS!
We’re all settled back in school.
Teachers are back in business.
St. Mary Bison, our football team, is on the field.
Players making plays while St. Mary cheerleaders cheer!
Bonfires blaze.
Time for our class to perform its special
HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR!
The days are getting cooler, and they are so, so, so
short.
Lights go on earlier.
The nights are getting longer, and they have a lot of
moonlight.
Everyone likes to go outside.
It’s time for sweatshirts and jackets.
“Time to bundle up!” my mother says.
Lovely, very colorful leaves are on the trees.
There are no more bees!
Apples are hanging on the orchard’s trees, we love to go
apple picking at Quigs.
Apples fresh to eat, supersized taffy apples,
Licking caramel off the apples, making apple pie, turn
some
into apple cider.
Hear the wind whistle, sometimes it howls.
See the wind blow.
Feel its cool breeze as it touches your face.
Feel the leaves falling down on me.
Hear them crunch under my feet.
Rake those crunchy leaves, put them in a pile, and JUMP!
Sometimes I like to crunch them up in my hands.
See the squirrels scamper and play.
They jump from branch to branch.
They collect acorns.
They are grabbing food for winter.
See the scarecrows in the fields scaring crows away.
See the birds flying south.
Love to go to Didier Farm.
Pick a pick a pumpkin.
Take a hayride.
Halloween is near.
Time to make your costume.
Pumpkins to carve.
See the little jack o lanterns smile.
Things can scare you like very little ghosts, haunted
houses,
and skeletons that rattle.
Time for dressing up, trick or treating, and scaring
people.
WHAT FUN for everyone!
Thanksgiving is near.
Smell pumpkin pies, taste the turkey and all the
different pies.
Soon winter will be here.
The best thing about FALL is how much FUN it can be!
