BookFall is here!  I love it!  by Elaine Good

We have been very busy this fall!  Our first grade class wrote individual sensory poems after listening to this book and several other fall stories.  Here's Alec's fall poem:

by Alec

I …  see crunchy leaves,
hear a ghost say, "Boo!"
taste chocolate candy,
smell buttered popcorn.
Masks feel bumpy.
I am happy because
Fall is here!  I love it!

You can see all our work at:   Sensational Fall Poems

And we ...

* wrote a class poem about a special fall favorite,

* collected leaves to send to other classes  for a Fall Leaf Exchange,

* observed and discussed signs of the season and illustrated fall scenes for another project:  Seasonal Changes Through Our Eyes and Yours,

* created a Ghost Gallery using Word and Paint programs and learned to scan leaves for the Fall Into Autumn project,

* Now that November is here, all our attention is on the coming election.  Our class is voting for Arthur or Ms. Frizzle to be our class president and we'll report the November 2, 2004 election results at Election 2004.

We Love Fall Baseball

Our class poem was inspired by the fantastic seven-game baseball series between the Boston Red Sox and our beloved (most of us) New York Yankees!  The students were very interested in these games, talking about players by name and deed (hits, strike outs, that sort of thing).  We were a bit surprised to see so many Red Sox fans in our small class!

As a teacher, I was quick to focus on the personal qualities of perseverance and not giving up like the Red Sox showed when losing 3 games in a row to the Yankees.  Of course by now we all know that they won that series of games and went on to win the World Series against St. Louis!

Here is our diamante poem and a few baseball drawings:
