We read several books about fall. The book that inspired our
writing of poetry was Henry and Mudge Under the Yellow Moon
by Cynthia Rylant, pictures by Sucie Stevenson.
In the science center the children sorted and classified leaves
according to properties they
observed. Each child then made a leaf rubbing of one leaf in each
category.
In the literacy center they listened to a cassette recording of the
story. As they listened, they wrote down all the words they heard
that reminded them of fall. The words were used in their individual
poems.
In the computer lab the children made individual fall webs. Then
they used Kidspiration to make an idea web of fall activities, and
used Kidspiration to illustrate individual poems.
Our Class Poem
IN
THE FALL
The season we love most of all, is the colorful,
cool and wonderful fall
In the fall leaves change different colors, red,
gold, yellow, red and brown
And the leaves can be seen fluttering all over
our town
In the Fall college marching bands perform
at Home Coming
The drum line is entertaining and keeps us
humming
In the fall our dads, uncles, and brothers watch
football.
While or mothers, aunts and sisters go shopping
at Garden State Mall.
In the fall we visit the pumpkin farm and like
to see straw coming from the scarecrow’s arm.
In the fall spooky Halloween comes, it’s
time to trick or treat.
Then Thanksgiving comes, it’s time to meet,
greet and eat.
Fall is a very exciting time we do admit.
Fall is here and we love it!
