We enjoyed listening to many seasonal stories during our unit on fall and pumpkins.  Our favorites included:

Too Many Pumpkins by Linda White
It's Pumpkin Time by Zoe Hall
From Seed to Pumpkin by Wendy Pfeffer

One we especially liked was I Like Pumpkins by Jerry Smath.  After listening to this story, we brainstormed a list of words that describe a pumpkin.  We sorted the list of words into different categories.  Using these words, we wrote a list poem about pumpkins.

Pumpkins We Love

Big pumpkins, little pumpkins
Fat pumpkins, skinny pumpkins
We love pumpkins.

Yellow pumpkins, orange pumpkins
Tall pumpkins, short pumpkins
We really love pumpkins.

Smooth pumpkins, bumpy pumpkins
Dirty pumpkins, lumpy pumpkins
We really, really love pumpkins.

Picked pumpkins, carved pumpkins
Painted pumpkins, decorated pumpkins
Fall is here!  We love it!

Our published poem is displayed in a pumpkin patch we created on our hallway bulletin board.  We used paper lunch bags, paint, pipe cleaners, and green construction paper to make paper bag pumpkins.  Our pumpkin patch is full of pumpkins we love.
