The Season's of Arnold's Apple Tree by Gail Gibbons
How Do Apples Grow? by Betsy Maestro
Autumn Leaves by Gail Sounders-Smith
Johnny Appleseed by Steven Kellogg
Pumpkin, Pumpkin by Jeanne Titherington
The Biggest Pumpkin Ever by Steven Kroll

We decided to write a 'sensory poem'. We used our five senses to help us write this class poem:

Fall's Five Senses

Fall smells like an apple pie.
Fall sounds like crunching leaves.
Fall looks like orange pumpkins.
Fall tastes like caramel apples.
Fall feels like a cold breeze.
Fall is here! We love it!

Fun Autumn Activity - Apple Tasting

The students tasted four different varieties of apples. We identified the properties of each apple and used our five senses to determine the difference between them. Finally, we got to taste the apples and vote on our favorite one.

Apple Poems

To compliment our unit on apples, each student wrote a poem independently. We used AlphaSmart(r) Keyboards to publish these poems. The students voted on which "professional paper" to use - we chose an apple border!
