In kindergarten we have been spending a lot of time learning about initial sounds. We thought it might be fun to try a collaborative class acrostic poem about fall leaves. Here is our poem and a few additional leaf projects that we did in class.

After completing the poem the students manipulated precut scrapbooking squares and triangles to create a maple leaf quilt. This project fit in perfectly with our math unit on patterns!

We also created "leaf sun catchers." When the sun is shining in the room these leaves are beautiful! To make them we put fall color crayon shavings between two pieces of wax paper. We used an iron to melt the crayon, placed a frame around the leaves and hung them on our windows. The picture below doesn’t do them justice (they don’t photograph well on the windows), but I hope this gives you an idea of how they look.
