In preparation for writing a poem about spring these books were shared.

Next during mid April, our class took a nature walk through our beautiful courtyard. Wildflowers were in bloom.

As students observed signs of spring they sketched pictures and color words into a journal. The next day the students brainstormed a class web about spring in Texas using information from their journals.

Each student then wrote a separate acrostic spring poem. Finally, parts of students' acrostic poems were used to create the class poem, Colorful Spring in Texas.

Colorful Spring in Texas

Fields of beautiful bluebonnets swaying in the breeze,
Gray mocking birds nesting in pecan trees.

Brown, baby roadrunners racing down the road,
Signs of a colorful spring are beginning to unfold.

Red and yellow Indian paintbrushes shining in the sun,
Artists on the Riverwalk painting everyone.

Pretty pink primroses hiding in blades of green grass,
Red, ripe strawberries ready to be picked at last.

Fields of scarlet poppies dotting hill and dale,

Spring cold fronts bringing quarter size
white balls of hail.

Yellow blossoms of the prickly pear open up at dawn,
Peeking through the trees we see the
tan coat of a baby fawn.

The setting of the sun behind the Alamo
Tells us it is time for the red, white, and blue fireworks of the Fiesta show.

Colorful Fiesta tells us spring is in the air,
Colorful spring in Texas is blooming everywhere.
