Our
2nd grade class received butterfly caterpillars in March. We also
received larva food and little plastic cups with tops to hold the
caterpillars. Over our Spring Break, the caterpillars grew and
ate!
When we returned, they formed chrysalises and were moved to a paper
box with plastic windows. We watched their progress daily, and wrote
and drew in our Observation Diaries. One morning we noted a
butterfly! By mid-day, another one! This is the first to be
released outside our classroom.
We
wrote an Acrostic poem on April 5, 2005 to celebrate:
Our Butterflies
Big colorful wings
flutter
Unusual patterns
Two butterflies emerge
Tan, orange, red, with
black spots
Each butterfly is
beautiful
Red begonias provide
nectar
Feasting on flowers and
fruit and
Laying eggs on green
leaves
Yellow
daisies, sunflowers and grass camouflage the butterflies...
it's spring!
This is our Chelsea Cheerleader Butterfly
