We read Spring by Nuria
Roca, A Nest Full of Eggs by Priscilla Belz Jenkins (all about robins), and
That's What Happens When It's Spring! by Elaine Good. Since we are
following the story of the mother mallard that laid her 9 eggs at the Treasury
building in Washington, D.C., we also read Make Way for Ducklings by
Robert McCloskey and Ducks Don't Get Wet by Augusta Goldin.
The
mother mallard duck hatched eleven ducklings on April 30. The family has
had "round the clock" Secret Service protection. They were transported on
Sunday, May 1 by motorcade to a safer home in Rock Creek Park, Washington, D.C.
All are doing well and were last seen swimming in the water.

We decided to write a senses poem for our class poem.

Spring
In the spring I
see
. . .
bright yellow daffodils,
dark red tulips,
small buds on trees.
In the spring I
hear
. . .
robin red breasts chirping,
children playing,
thunder,
raindrops pouring.
In the spring I
feel
. . .
the hot sun on my face,
cold raindrops on my head,
a warm breeze blowing.
In the spring I
smell
. . .
pretty pink cherry blossoms,
big purple lilacs on the bush outside my
window,
stinky green skunk cabbage at the park.
In the spring I
taste
. . .
shiny blueberries,
tasty red strawberries,
leafy green lettuce.
SPRING IS GREAT! |
For
our individual poems we wrote 5Ws poems. This is just an
example of one of our poems:

Spring
By Fynn
Fynn and Arianna
Playing outside
On a really flowery spring day
In Arianna's backyard
Because they love to play. |
We
loved making our spring flower pictures. We made the stems,
leaves, and grass by dipping pieces of yarn into green
paint. We made the flowers by painting with our fingers!
